Happy Solstice, friends!

We are seeing so much growth here on the farm–the onions and leeks–all the crops in the fields, really–are shooting up with these long days and lots of moisture, and seem to be inspiring our young’uns to grow even faster than usual.  Here’s a compilation of photos from the first half of 2017.

Special welcome from us to our two new farm members, both of whom are amazing artists: Misha Vargas (Tyler’s fiancée) and Vince Vercillo, our cheesemaker.  Misha is a brilliant woman, a lover of agriculture, an awesomely playful tía and an inspiringly skilled dancer–she has many other attributes that I have yet to discover.  We’re so lucky to have such a dear person on the farm.

Vince’s official job description requires him to make cheese, but he has insinuated himself into North Branch Farm and our family-web in so many other ways already.  He is raising our pork, making our butter, including our kids, putting in hours all over the farm, and taking our cheese to the next level with native starter cultures and a set of cheese recipes specifically adapted to the seasonality of pasture growth and the stages of the cows’ lactation.

Enjoy the shots!
